Dear Computer Lady,

We recently bought a new computer and would like to sell the older one.

How can I erase all personal info off of it, such as bank acct. numbers and credit card numbers??? We did a lot of online banking and shopping and I would hate for someone to gain access to our credit card/bank acct.

Thanks, Kelly

Dear Kelly,

The easiest way to take all personal information off your computer is to run the restore disk that came with your computer. Most computer companies provide one with the computer. Be sure to chose the option that will erase the hard drive during the restore process.

If you don't have a restore disk, or are not sure how to use yours, you should be able to take it to a local computer shop and they can do this for

you using either the restore disk, or your original Windows CD. If using the Windows CD, you will also need to provide the hardware driver disks that came with your computer.

This is something that I occasionally do for my customers and it typically takes two to three hours.
