Cleaning Out Duplicate Pictures

Dear Computer Lady,

I hope you can help me, I have somehow copied my photos from my phone to my computer multiple times, and now have duplicates of almost every picture in different locations.

I know I need to clean them up, but this is going to take forever! Please tell me there is an easier way.

Thank you, Dakota

Dear Dakota,

I actually have a great way to speed up the process of cleaning up your files.

Some time ago, a reader sent me a link to this free program:

and I have been putting it to use. Sometimes when I am working on a project, either learning or teaching a subject, I make copies of files as I go, and I have been using this program to clean things up.

One helpful hint for this program though, is to narrow the results down to just the specific folders you are working on, otherwise you might be overwhelmed by the number of results.

The files you remove can be sent to the recycle bin so that you can restore a file later if you desire.
