Scrollbar Width

Dear Computer Lady,

I had read somewhere that you could enlarge the scrolling button but I cannot remember how to do it.  I now have a Gateway Home Edition with Windows XP and would appreciate it if you could tell me how! I read your newsletter and have learned so much.

Thank you, Grace

Dear Grace,

You can make the scroll bars wider in Windows XP as well as Windows 98 and ME. Here is how:

1. Open the Display Properties window by clicking on “Start”, then “Control Panel”, “Appearance and Themes” and finally, the “Display” icon. You can also get to the Display Properties window by right clicking on a blank spot on your desktop and click “Properties”.

2. In the “Display Properties” window, click on the “Appearance” tab, and click on the “Advanced” button near the bottom.

3. The “Advanced Appearance” widow will open. Look for the drop down list named “Item:”. Click the drop down list to select “Scrollbar” as the item you want to change, then adjust the “Size” number to the size you desire. The change will be reflected in the illustration at the top of the window.

4. When you are finished, click “OK” twice and your changes will take effect.

Elizabeth
