Dear Computer Lady,
What is a PC Cleaner?
I’m guessing that you are talking about programs that claim to speed up your computer by cleaning it out. There seems to be a lot of them out there, and they are always advertising trying to get you to purchase their product.
The truth is, you don’t need to waste your money, most of the things that these programs do can be easily done on your own, and some of them are automatically done for you by Windows.
For example, some PC Cleaner programs say that they defragment your hard drive for you. Actually, your Windows operating system automatically defragments your hard drive for you.
Many of the tasks run by a PC Cleaner program can be done simply following these directions:
1. Open File Explorer (Or Windows Explorer) and click on “This PC” in the left column.
2. Right Click on your hard drive in the right side of the window, and click, “Properties” in the context menu.
3. Click the “Disk Cleanup” button on the General tab, select the types of files you want to clean up and click the button that says, “Clean up system files”.
4. Once that is finished, click the “Tools” tab and use the two tools on that page to defragment and check your hard drive for errors.
That will clean up your computer.
It’s Your Turn: What do you think?
