Can’t Play MP4 Video

Hi Elizabeth,

My new Olympus camera takes MP4 video which is not compatible with Windows Vista. I can not
believe I am the only person having this problem but have not been able to fine a work
around on the internet. Can you help.

I have learned a lot from you and would appreciate your help.

Thanks, Sharry

Dear Sharry,

You are not the only person with this problem, but there are several solutions you can try to be able to view your videos.

First, it is not Vista that is not compatible, it is just that your version of Windows Media Player does not have the right codecs to decode the MP4 video.

Your best solution is to download a program that is capable of displaying the MP4 files for you.

Apple Quick Time will play MP4 files:

iTunes can play MP4 video:

MPC-HC is a free, open source program that plays MP4 files. I have not tried it, but it looks decent:

You should be able to download and install one of these programs and play your video from your camera.

Hi, I use VLC Media Player that I downloaded for free. It, too, plays .mp4’s.
