Access Email From Website

Dear Computer Lady,

In windows Vista I set up windows mail with comcast (my local cable service). How do I go about getting my email back to receiving it at comcast.com?

Thanks, Luke

Dear Luke,

If you were previously getting your email messages on Comcast’s website, you can still get your messages there.

If you want to only get your email messages on the Comcast website, just stop using Windows Live Mail and go back to using the website. As long as you are not downloading the messages to Live Mail, they will stay on the server at Comcast.

If you have old messages on Live Mail that you still want to access, you will want to remove the comcast account so that it will not remove the messages from the server each time you open the program.

If you want to use both Live Mail and the website interface, you just need to change one setting in Live Mail so that it does not remove the messages from Comcast when it downloads your messages.

Here is how to change the setting:

1. Open Windows Live Mail.
2. Click on “Tools” in the menu bar, then click on “Accounts…”.
3. Click on your email account name in the left half of the window, then click on the “Properties” button on the right.
4. Click on the “Advanced” tab in the Properties dialog box.
5. Click to place a check mark in front of, “Leave a copy of messages on server”.
6. Click the “OK” button to save your changes and close the dialog box.

If you want to remove the comcast account, completely:

1. Open Windows Live Mail.
2. Click on “Tools” in the menu bar, then click on “Accounts…”.
3. Click on your email account name in the left half of the window, then click on the “Remove” button.
4. Click the “OK” button in the box that pops up asking you if you are sure you want to remove the account.
5. Click the “Close” button to close the Accounts dialog box.
