Windows Mail Not Working in Windows 10

Dear Computer Lady:

I have had Windows 10 loaded on to my Windows 8.1 Toshiba laptop for several months. Since going to Windows 10, I have not been able to send or receive mail in Windows Mail. The people in the store could not load it on, either.

A computer tech just told us that Windows Mail in Windows 10 is “a piece of junk” and that we should just wait for the update to arrive.

I like the Windows Mail format and have used it for years. So, I am wondering if you have any suggestions about what I might do.

Love your articles and your help. Stay warm!

Sincerely, Nancy

Dear Nancy,

I don’t know if the Mail app that comes with Windows 10 is junk, but it does not have many of the features that we have come to expect from our email programs. I am not sure if this is because Microsoft assumes we all get our email online now, or if they are trying to get you to purchase Microsoft Outlook which is a full-featured email program.

Either way, waiting for an update probably won’t bring a solution to your problem.

I would suggest that you try a different email program. There are several available that have a similar format to the Windows Mail that you are used to using. I usually suggest Mozilla Thunderbird at: www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/

If you search my question and answer database
at: askthecomputerlady.com/questions/ for Thunderbird, you will find quite a few articles about it.
