How To Quickly Shut Down Facebook Imposters

Dear Computer Lady,

Recently one of my Facebook friends contacted me and started to chat. It didn’t take me long to realize it really wasn’t my friend, but someone trying to make me think it was my friend and they wanted me to send them money.

This doesn’t seem right, what can I do to stop this imposter?

Thanks, Robert

Dear Robert,

You can report the fake account to Facebook, and they are really good at shutting the imposter down. Here is how you do that:

If you have a Facebook account and want to report someone that’s pretending to be you or someone you know:
1. Go to the profile of the impersonating account
If you can’t find it, try searching for the name used on the profile or asking your friends if they can send you a link to it.

2. Click on the cover photo and select Report
3, Follow the on-screen instructions for impersonation to file a report.

I have had to do this for several friends recently, and the imposters have been shut down in less than an hour.

I’ve got a better solution. Stay off of Facebook completely. I’ve seen more people get in trouble with that program. I don’t touch that, Twitter or any of the social networks and believe me, its a better life. You still have email.
