Oriental Script on Facebook

Dear Computer Lady,

I have acquired something new on Facebook this week! I have Windows 10 on all my computers etc. and I occasionally get on Facebook – mostly to see what friends are saying – and this past week there is a lot of Oriental type script on my Facebook entries.

What is this about and should I be worried? -Jean

Dear Jean,

It sounds like you might have changed the language on your facebook account. Here is how to change it back to normal:

1. First, log into your facebook account, then click the small triangle in the top right of your facebook page, and click to select “Settings” in the drop-down menu.

2. On the left side of the settings window, click on “Language”.

3. The top language setting is probably the one you want to change, click on “Edit” on the right and choose your desired langauage.

4. Click the “Save Changes” button to save the changes.

This should put your facebook page back to normal.

This happened to a friend of mine who lives in Tennessee and I live in Iowa. The instructions you gave are correct, but almost everything will be in the “other” language including the word “language”, etc. I got on the phone and walked her through the process by saying “click on the 4th (or whatever it is) item down on the list on the left side. We did this with every step and then when it was back to English, I had her restart her computer while I was still on the phone. After she logged back onto Facebook again and everything was OK, I then hung up.
