LeoCAD is a CAD program that can be used to create virtual LEGO models. It has an easy to use interface and currently features over 4000 different pieces created by the LDraw community.

I found that LeoCAD was easy to download and install. Once installed, there is a list of parts that you can work with. Each part can be created in any color.

It might take a little bit of experimenting to get good at building objects in LeoCAD, but there are a couple of tutorials on their website to get you started. This is a great program for your creative youngster or future video game creator to create 3D objects in a virtual environment.
