Programs To Wipe Clean Your Hard Drive

[ad]Dear Computer Lady,

I want to wipe clean my hard drive.

I ran across DBan and Wipe Drive. One is free and the other must be purchased.

I would like to know if these or any wipe system, really work or maybe you can suggest one.

Thank you, Teddy

Dear Teddy,

I have never used Wipe Drive, but I do use DBan all the time.

DBan (Darik’s Boot And Nuke) automatically deletes the contents of any hard disk it can detect. This prevents identity theft before recycling a computer.

DBan works on traditional hard drives, but not SSD drives.

DBan works by writing over the data on your hard drive three times. I usually plan a full day for it to run. Once you have run it on your computer, there will be NOTHING left. Not even Windows. So be sure you don’t want anything on your computer before running DBan on it.
