Dear Computer Lady,
Hello, when I turn on my computer a black screen appears and I have to press the F1 key to continue. I didn’t have that step before and was wondering how to eliminate it.
This usually means that something has changed in the hardware of your computer.
The way to get rid of the message is to go into the BIOS setup menu and configure the change. I can’t tell you how to do this since every BIOS setup menu works a little differently, however, what I can tell you is this. Only attempt to go in and change the BIOS setup if you have an idea of what you are doing. If you don’t, either have a professional make the changes for you, or just keep pressing F1 when you boot your computer. If you change the wrong thing in your BIOS settings, your computer might not even be able to start.
It is far easier to press the F1 key each time you start your computer than it is to try to recover from messsing up the BIOS settings!
It could also be a symptom of a dead BIOS battery. This is a small round watch battery located on the motherboard. You can usually get a replacement battery at your local computer repair shop.
It’s Your Turn: What do you think?
