How To Dry Your Laptop after a Spill

[ad]Dear Computer Lady,

My daughter spilled water on her laptop computer. It stopped working.

We took out the battery and have the computer open to dry.

Is there anything else we should be doing besides praying??

Thanks so much, Marsha

Dear Marsha,

The good news is that your daughter only spilled water on the laptop, and not something sticky like soda or juice.

The water will evaporate and as long as there was no damage done to the computer when you first tried to get it to work (I’m guessing that is what happened from your statement that the laptop stopped working) it should be fine.

The trick here is to make sure that it is completely dry before you try to turn it on again. I would put the laptop in a dry location, and give it a week. Keep checking it, and when you are sure it is completely dry, give another day or two, then try to turn it back on.
