Dear Computer Lady,
I suddenly am having strange problems with my e-mail. When typing a note, sometimes (not always) when I get to a word with a “T” in it … the letters following the t will have jumped somewhere in the prior lines or even prior paragraph. I have to look for the cursor to find it, backspace to get rid of whatever letters I had typed and then go back to the word I intended to write. Obviously when this happens with every third or fourth “t”, I give up.
How do I fix this?
Thanks for your help. I’ve been reading your newsletters for years and years and always at least one item that helps me or explains things.
Please keep up the excellent work, Mary
While I would have to take a look at your computer to figure out exactly what is wrong, I strongly suspect that the problem is with your keyboard. Perhaps there is a stuck letter, or the letter T has a short in it. Maybe even reaching for the letter T is causing your palms to brush against the touchpad and moving your cursor.
Try plugging in a new keyboard. If you have a desktop computer, you can just unplug the current keyboard and plug in a new one.
If you are using a laptop, just plug in a USB keyboard and type on that instead of the built in keyboard.
That will probably fix this problem.
It’s Your Turn: What do you think?
