Dear Computer Lady,
My question today is about Chrome vs. IE.
I am used to IE and happy with it, but everyone tells me to change to Chrome, even my favorite concert hall doesn’t allow me anymore to order tickets online because their system works only with Chrome.
I run W 10 and my email program is Outlook.com, both just fine with IE. My security program is Emsisoft.
What do I do ? Stay with IE or install Chrome ? I am just a run-of-the-mill-user, not doing anything complicated.
I would be very thankful to know your opinion.
And keep up your wonderful & helpful advice in your newsletter.
Helga
Dear Helga,
There is nothing wrong with using Internet Explorer (IE) on your computer, but you can also install Chrome if you want and use it for those times when a website won’t work with IE.
My advice would be to keep using IE. You are comfortable with it, and for the most part it is working for you.
If you want to order tickets from your favorite concert hall, you can always download and install Chrome, but don’t make it your default browser (when you install it, it will ask you if you want to make it your default) Chrome and IE will work together fine on your system, I have them both installed on my computer, and sometimes I even have them both running at the same time.
Hope this helps, Elizabeth

Helga — This isn’t a technical point — the Computer Lady’s suggestions are always excellent — but something you might want to point out to your favorite concert hall. By eliminating the world’s most commonly used browser, they’re also liable to be eliminating a lot of their business. It’s like a grocery store telling customers that they can only shop there if they’re wearing a green shirt. Anybody who doesn’t own one, or isn’t inclined to buy one just for that shop, will take their business elsewhere. They need to be serving you, not the other way around!
