How To Safely Update Firefox

Dear Computer Lady,

If a full screen message pops up that says Firefox requires a manual update is this legitimate?

It’s happened twice but I haven”t done anything

Thank you, Carolyn

Dear Carolyn,

While I can’t tell you if a pop-up is legitimate without actually seeing it (and sometimes even then I am not sure) I can tell you how to safely check and update Firefox.

1. Open Firefox and click on the three small lines in the upper-right corner just below the X.

2. In the drop-down menu, click on “Help” and then click on “About Firefox”.

3. A small dialog box will open and automatically check to see if there are available updates. If updates are available, it will automatically install them.

If Firefox is up to date, the dialog box will say, “Firefox is up to date”.
