Internet Explorer Pop-ups

Dear Elizabeth,

You are such a help! Thank you so much!

I have a problem with pop ups on my old computer with XP. I have gone in to Internet Explorer tools and turned up the pop up blocker, but that doesn’t do much.

When I go to Amazon, the Pop ups are ridiculous, any suggestions?

Again, I thank you so much, Judy

Dear Judy,

Without actually looking at the pop-ups you are getting, I can’t tell you exactly how to get rid of them, but I can hopefully point you in the right direction.

Most of the pop-ups that I see lately are caused by malware in the form of toolbars, coupon apps and search helpers. To get rid of most of these, you can simply go to the control panel and uninstall all these types of programs.

To get started, click on the “Start” button, then click on “Control Panel”.

Once in the Control Panel, click on “Uninstall a Program” and look through the list of programs.

When you see a program that is a toolbar, coupon program, or search helper, click on that program, then click “Uninstall” in the menu bar.

Restart your computer and you should see a reduction in the number of pop-ups.
