Multiple Browsers

Dear Computer Lady,

My default browser is Internet Explorer. In addition, I installed Mozilla Firefox.

A friend of mine, who is very computer savvy, warned me that having two different browsers will create a problem. He wasn’t specific, but, in your opinion, is he correct?

Thanks so much for your expert opinion! ReBecca

Dear ReBecca,

I have Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox installed on my computer. I use Chrome most of the time, but also frequently open Internet Explorer when I want to use my bank website or some other site that does not work in Chrome. I also occasionally open Firefox for one reason or another.

All three programs exist on my computer without any problems, and I can even have them open at the same time.

Your friends experience probably comes from previous versions of IE and Netscape. They often caused problems back in the Windows 95 era.

Often, people who are “computer savvy” were savvy about 10 or 15 years ago, but have not kept up with the times. I also have Chrome, Firefox, and IE8 (on Vista), but have Seamonkey and Flock, plus Songbird. No problems. It isn’t like having two antiviruses, which can indeed cause problems! (smile!)
