I currently have the free version of Spybot Search & Destroy on my computer and don’t have any spyware problems. I believe I have seen you recommend the free Spyblaster so my question is:
Should I remove what I have and install Spyblaster, have both programs installed, or keep what I have?
Thank you so much for all your excellent information, you’re a Godsend!
Sincerely, Donna W in Arizona
Many programs that cause advertisements to pop up on your screen, or try to trick you into thinking you are having problems with their computer (that they can supposedly fix if you give them your credit card information) are not actually viruses, but other types of malicious software, often referred to as, Malware.
While you should not run two antivirus programs on your computer at the same time, I have used both Spybot Search & Destroy and Spyware Blaster together on the same computer many times. They don’t cause any conflicts with each other, and in fact one might catch a program that the other might miss.
My advice is to make sure that you have a really good antivirus program installed on your computer, (I use AVG Internet Security 2011) and then install Spybot Search & Destroy and Spyware Blaster. You should be very well protected with that combination. Just make sure you keep them all up to date.
