Dear Computer Lady,
You’ve been a great help in the past. I hope you can solve this. It is probably simple but I can’t figure it out and it is making me a bit crazy.
I’ve a new lap top with Windows 7. Some how in my IE and Firefox windows the top ‘Tools’ bar line, i.e. “File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools and Help, has disappeared.
I’ve tried searching Tools, Tool Bar, Task Bar, Control Panel, etc. and have had no luck finding out where it is and how to get it back.
Thanks, Mary E.
The bar you are looking for is called the, “Menu Bar”. The name comes from the fact that each item in the bar opens up a menu when you click on it.
A quick and easy way to temporarily display the menu bar is to just tap the “Alt” key on your keyboard. This temporarily displays the menu bar. It will disappear when you use a menu, or click in the window.
If you want to have the menu bar always visible, follow these directions:
1. Tap the Alt key on your keyboard to display the menu bar.
2. Click on View in the Menu Bar, then point to toolbars.
3. In the Toolbars sub-menu, click on “Menu Bar”.
Your menu bar will now stay visible until you repeat the steps above to turn it back off.
