[ad]Dear Computer Lady,
I have been a reader for long time and just read your e-mail that came today.
I and my husband both have Windows XP and have been reading about after April 2014 not being supported. Doesn’t our anti-virus and malware handle this.
My Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security even had a newsletter on it and someone put as a comment, isn’t that what Trend Micro is for?
Love your newsletter, Karen
Dear Karen,
According to Trend Micro on their website:
Microsoft has announced that all official support for the Windows XP OS will end on April 9, 2014, which includes all bug fixes and vulnerability patches. After April 9, any new vulnerability that may be discovered or targeted at Windows XP will not be addressed by Microsoft.
In order to help our business customers safely migrate to the latest OS, Trend Micro will be extending its support for Windows XP-based clients on its business endpoint protection products (OfficeScan and Worry Free Business Security) until January 30, 2017.
Notice that this official statement from Trend Micro is referring only to business protection products, and nowhere does it state that their protection will make up for the fact that there will be no Windows bug fixes or vulnerability patches.
It is not malware and viruses that you are unprotected from, but hackers who are always looking for systems to break into and use for their (mostly illegal) purposes.
