You probably noticed that your iPad doesn’t have too many buttons, so it makes sense that some of them have more than one function. This is true of the power button, it actually has four functions, it turns your iPad on, off, puts it to sleep, or wakes it up.
Let’s take a look:
First, lets locate the power button. If you hold your iPad with the back facing you, and the apple symbol right side up, you will see the power button on the top-left edge of your tablet, just above the round camera.
If your iPad is currently on, pressing the power button once will put it to sleep.
Press and release the power button again to wake it back up.
When you want to shut your iPad completely off, press and hold down the power button for a few seconds, when you see a message on the screen that says, “Slide to power off” just slide the red button to the right and your iPad will shut itself completely off.
When the iPad is turned off, press and hold down the power button again until the apple symbol appears on the screen. Release the power button and wait while the iPad boots up.
Most of the time, you will keep your iPad in the sleep mode. This way, when you want to use it, you don’t have to wait for it to load up. There are a few times when you might want to shut it down all the way.
If you want to preserve as much of the battery as you can, you should turn off the iPad.
If you are experiencing any problems with your iPad, shutting it down and restarting usually will solve the problem.
