Bookmarks In Word Document

Dear Computer Lady,

I’m writing a novel and want to save it chapter by chapter and as a whole piece as I move along.

I don’t want to have to scroll through 14 chapters, for example, to get to chapter 15 on which I am working. But I do want the entire work in one piece when I get to the first complete revision.

Where is the best place to save this stuff and how do I do it? I work with Microsoft Word in Windows 98.

Thanks, Jim

Dear Jim,

You would need to save it all in one Word file to keep it all together, but, you can set bookmarks in word that would take you to the beginning of each chapter.

To set the bookmark, go to the beginning of a chapter, click “Insert” in the menu bar and then click on “Bookmark”. Give your bookmark a name like Chapter1 (Spaces are not allowed in a bookmark name) and click “Add”.

To go to a chapter, click on “Edit” in the menu bar and click again on “Go To”. Select bookmark as the place you would like to go, select your chapter and you will be taken to that chapter.
