Overtype Mode

Dear Computer Lady,

Sometimes my word program eats a letter when I make a change – making it difficult to do corrections – this does not always happen.  Do you happen to know what causes this?

Thanks Much for any help, CH

Dear CH,

When you go back in a document and make a change, you will be working in one of two modes, insert mode, or over type mode.

In insert mode, the text already in the document moves over to make room for the text you are inserting.

In over type mode, the text you type replaces the text that is already there.

If you find yourself in one mode and you would really like to be in the other, just press the “Insert” key on your keyboard to change it.
