Dear Computer Lady,
Every once in a while I get a popup about a Java upgrade.
Should I do it?
This is a hard question to answer because, while it is safe to update Java, you have to be absolutely sure you are updating Java and not clicking on some malicous software pretending to be a Java update.
When a message pops up on your computer telling you to update Java, I suggest you go directly to www.java.com to upgrade to the latest version.
On the Java website, you will see a big red button that says, “Free Java Download”. Click on that button and follow the directions (there is a link to installation instructions on the download page) to download and install the latest version.
