Install New Internet Explorer?

Dear Computer Lady,

Have you installed IE8 yet? I saw where you were holding off since there had been so many problems reported. I’m thinking of installing but thought I’d check with you first.

Thanks, Roger

Dear Roger,

I have installed Internet Explorer 8, and have been using it for quite some time now.

I suspect that what you really meant to ask me is if I have installed Internet Explorer 9 yet. IE 9 came out a few weeks ago, and many people have reported problems with it.

I have not installed Internet Explorer 9 yet, and I will probably wait another month or so before I do. I like to let other people experience the bugs in new software programs.

If you want to install the latest version of IE, there are a few things you want to take into consideration first.

I will end up installing the new version of IE on my computer because with a powerful processor and 8GB of RAM, I know that my computer has the power to run this new program. If I was using an older computer with only 1 or 3 GB of RAM, I would probably stick with the older version. Many people run into problems trying to install new software (which is written for systems currently being sold) on older computers that just don’t have the processing power for the new software.

You also want to make sure your computer is backed up before installing IE or any new program. You never know when a new software program will mess up your computer.

I also like to create a restore point in System Restore so that I can go back to that restore point if I need to.

I hope this helps you decide if you want to go ahead and install the new version of IE.

Elizabeth

I installed IE 9 shortly after it came out because I “disliked” IE 8 intensely and I think it is much better than IE 8, I have had absolutely no problems so far. The claims that it uses less in the resource area than IE 8* seem to be true. Much quicker than IE 8 and I am a devoted Firefox person but use IE 9 for an additional browser. Also much more user friendly than IE 8.

great info, but what if none of your restore points work? None of mine have worked for a very long time and I don’t know how to correct this.
