Import Windows Address Book

Dear Computer Lady,

I recently upgraded to a new (used) computer, and have the files from my old computer on a CD. How do I get my email address book from the CD into the address book on my new computer?

Dear CW,

If your new computer has Windows XP for an operating system, follow these directions:

1. Insert the CD into your new computer.
2. If an autorun window appears, click on “Open folder to view files”.
3. If no autorun window appears, click on “Start” then “My Computer”, then double click on the CD ROM drive to view the contents of the CD.
4. Drag the address book file from the CD to your desktop.
5. Click on “Start”, point to “All Programs”, then “Accessories”, and click on “Address Book”.
6. In the address book menu bar, click on “File”, point to “Import” and click on “Address Book (WAB)…”
7. A window will appear for you to select the location you want to import from. Navigate to your desktop and select the file.
8. Click on the “Open” button, and when the import is finished, a window will appear that says you have successfully imported your address book.

If your new computer is running Windows Vista, your job is much easier.

1. Insert the CD into your new computer.
2. If an autorun window appears, click on “Open folder to view files”.
3. If no autorun window appears, click on “Start”, then “Computer” and double click on the CD Drive to view the contents.
4. Double click on the windows address book file on your CD and Vista will automatically import the contacts into your Windows Contacts folder.
