Vista Shutdown Shortcut

Dear Computer Lady,

I used your info. on the one-click shutdown for a long time. I now have a Vista (not to my liking!) and wondered if you have a link for one-click shutdown on this version of windows?

Thanks for your help, again. LG

Dear LG,

I do have directions for creating a shutdown shortcut in Vista.

1. Right click on a blank spot on your desktop.
2. In the context menu that appears, point to “New” and then click on “Shortcut”.
3. A “Create Shortcut” window will appear (pictured below). Type the following in the location box:

shutdown -s -t 01

4. Click the “Next” button.
5. Click on the “Finish” button.

Vista Shutdown Shortcut

When you double click on your new shutdown shortcut, the computer will go through the shutdown process.

OH DEAR! I created the shutdown Vista shortcut on my husband’s computer and it replaced his shortcut to I-Vault (Comodo personal info security)! Please tell me what happened!
    Thanks!!!

  1. It sounds like you might have right clicked on the icon instead of a blank spot on your desktop.

Elizabeth, you spoke of double-click on shortcuts (icons);isn’t there a one-click method that can be applied in Vista? I know I have that feature on my XP, but it’s been years-I’ve no clue how it was done. I love it and if the same can be applied to Vista I’ve family and frends that now have Vista I would pass on the information to. Many thanks from your reader at LLLiDO. Wishing you well in your efforts to prepare for the wedding and put out “Ask the Computer Lady’ at the same time!
