Dear Computer Lady,
I hope you can help. I tried to follow the instructions you gave in your newsletter to turn off Cortana in windows 10.
Clicking on the circle icon in the task bar did not bring up notebook, but I did find it in the top left 3 bars. I clicked on notebook and settings, there was no “Cortana can give you suggestions”, but all the boxes were off. I still have the circle and the Ask Me Anything. How do I get just a search box so I can search for items on my computer and not just the web. All my questions there go to the web.
Thanks so much for all the help you offer. Mary
It looks like Microsoft has changed Cortana in a recent update. In fact, now I can’t find a way to turn it off, there is only an option to hide Cortana.
You can hide Cortana by right-clicking on a blank spot on the taskbar, then point to “Cortana” and click on “Hidden”.
I can, however help you search for items on your computer. Just tap the windows logo key on your keyboard and type what you are searching for. For example, if I want to find my budget document, I tap the windows logo key and type, “Budget”
At the top of the search results (which will automatically search the internet) there are three icons. One for searching apps on your computer, one for documents on your computer, and one for the web. Click on the icon that represents where you want to search.
