Dear Computer Lady,
My friend downloaded the free version of Windows 10 on my laptop that already had Windows 7 on it.
How do I remove Windows 10 from my laptop?
I want to keep Windows 7, as I like it better than windows 10. I do not need both of them on the same laptop.
The short answer to your question is that you probably can’t remove Windows 10 from your laptop, not easily anyway.
My reason for this answer is that Microsoft only provides the ability to go back to your previous operating system for 30 days after upgrading to Windows 10, and it has been far longer than that since the free upgrade was available.
It is not impossible, however.
After 30 days have passed the only way to go back to your original Windows 7 is to follow the following steps.
1. Backup your files. This is very important because your computer is going to be erased during the following steps.
2. Run the recovery program that came with your computer. It is different for different types of computers. This will put your comptuer back the way it was when you brought it home from the store.
3. Restore your files that you backed up.
If this is something that you are comfortable doing, great! If not, this is something that I do here in my computer shop, and I am sure your local computer repair shop will do for you as well. If you live in the area, I would be happy to do it for you.
It’s Your Turn: What do you think?
