Dear Computer Lady,
How do I password protect folders in windows 10?
I enjoy reading your newsletters and have combed your website but I cannot figure out how to do this.
Thank you for your help, David
Password protection is not a feature that is included with Windows 10, but there are a couple of work around’s that might help you.
1. You could compress (zip) the folder you want to protect, then set a password for the zipped folder. You would have to have a compression program installed on your computer that includes the ability to set a password on your compressed folder.
2. You could use Windows to encrypt your folder and it’s contents. Once encrypted, the folder can only be opened when you (or anyone else) are logged into your Windows account. There is no password to remember, but if your computer crashes and you can’t log into your account for any reason, the contents of the folder could be lost forever.
3. There are third party programs online that allow you to password protect folders. I have not used any of them so I can’t give you a recommendation.
It’s Your Turn: What do you think?
