Dear Computer Lady,
I have a computer with Windows 10.
Why do computers have a power button that you turn it on with, but you are not supposed to turn it off with?
All my other devices can be turned on and off with the power button.
Actually, if you make a few changes in your settings, you can use the power button to shut down your computer safely.
Here is how:
1. On your Windows 10 computer, tap the windows logo key on your keyboard and type: Power Options. Click on, “Power Options” in the search results.
2. This will open the Control Panel in the power options section. Click on “Choose what the power button does” in the left hand section.
3. Now, you will see a section for power button and lid settings. You can select different settings if you are running on battery power or plugged in. Click the drop down arrow for each section and click on “Shut down” to select it.
4. Click the “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the window to save your changes.
Now, when you press and release the power button, your computer will begin the shutdown process and turn off when finished.
It’s Your Turn: What do you think?
