Closing Apps in Windows 8

[ad]Dear Computer Lady,

I have a new computer and am still learning windows 8, needless to say, it has been hard.

I learned too late that if there is a document in an e-mail that I open up to read, that I have to go back to the email to get this document off the screen.

On some occasions I haven’t done this and the documents will pop up at any time and I can’t get rid of them.
How do I do this? thanks, Sue

Dear Sue,

It sounds like you are opening PDF documents and they are opening up in the Windows 8 PDF app.

The best way to close the app depends on if you have a touch screen or not.

With a touch screen, just swipe with your finger from the top of the screen to the bottom to close the app.

If you don’t have a touch screen, point your mouse cursor to the very top of your screen until the pointer turns into a hand. Next, hold down the mouse button and drag to the very bottom of the screen. The window will close as you do so.
