Getting My Scanner To Work in Windows 8

[ad]Dear Computer Lady,

How do I scan in a document in Windows 8? It was SO easy with XP.

Do I need some additional SW?

Thanks, Arline

Dear Arline,

You probably need to download updated software from your scanner manufacturer’s website.

When you bought your scanner, it came with a disk and scanning software that ran on Windows XP. Now that you have Windows 8, you need to get the scanner software that will work with Windows 8.

The best way to do this is to go to your computer manufacturer’s website and find your scanner model. Then check for downloads for that scanner. If they have Windows 8 software listed, you can download and install it to be able to scan just like you did with XP.

If they don’t have Windows 8 software available, then you might have to purchase a new scanner. It is up to the scanner manufacturer to come up with new software that works with current operating systems.

Elizabeth, a question on this. You used to be able to use a twain device protocol thingy (can’t think of correct word) to use scanners, and printers, as generic printer types, eg Epson, IBM and Panasonic (?)

    Is this no longer true?
