Dear Computer Lady,
I just bought a new computer, and of course it has Windows 8 on it.
The programs menu looks totally different, and I am having a hard time finding my programs and tools. I know they are there… but where are they?
Can you help? Darlene
The easiest and fastest way to find your programs in Windows 8 is with your keyboard.
Simply tap the windows logo key (located to the left of your spacebar) then start typing the name of the program you are looking for.
Windows 8 will automatically start searching for programs, settings and even documents that match what you are typing.
For example, if I am looking for the Control Panel, I tap the Windows Logo key and start typing. By the time I have typed the first three letters, “con” Windows 8 has displayed a list of search results with the Control Panel at the top of the list.
You can do the same thing with documents. If I typed a letter to Aunt Martha in Word, and want to get back to it quickly, I can tap the windows logo key and type, “Dear Aunt Martha”. You will notice under the search box, there are three categories, Apps, Settings, and Files. Click on “Files” to see all the documents that contain your search term.
It’s Your Turn: What do you think?
