[ad]Dear Computer Lady,
What’s the big deal about Windows 8? They’re always coming out with new versions – what’s so different (and awful) about this one? Everybody I know just groans & rolls their eyes when it’s mentioned, and says stay away from it as long as you can. I’ve adapted to every one that came along – why’s this one so bad?
Thanks, Nancy
Dear Nancy,
The big difference with Windows 8 is that instead of a start menu, there is now a start screen with tiles. It looks more like the screen on a windows phone.
Since this new interface is optimized for a touch screen, it often feels awkward when trying to navigate with a mouse.
I personally don’t think there is anything awful about this version of Windows, it is just different, and it is part of human nature to dislike change.
The good news is that Windows 8 can be customized to look and act like earlier versions of Windows. This gives you the user interface that you are used to, while retaining the updated security of the new operating system. I have customized quite a few Windows 8 computers recently, and everyone seems to be happy with it.
