Windows 8 Shutdown Shortcut

[ad]Dear Computer Lady,

One of the things that I don’t like about my new Windows 8 computer is that there are so many steps to shut down or even restart the computer.

Is there any way I can put a shortcut to shut down the computer on my desktop?

Thanks, Don

Dear Don,

Yes, you can put a shutdown shortcut on your Windows 8 desktop.

Here is how:

1. On your desktop, right click on a blank spot, and in the context menu that appears point to, “New” then click on “Shortcut”.

2. A dialog box will appear. In the middle is a box where you can enter the location of your item. In this box, type the following:

shutdown /s /t 0

3. Click the, “Next” button, type a name for your shortcut (Shut Down works for me, but you can use your imagination) and click, “Finish”.

You now have a shut down shortcut on your desktop. All you have to do is double click on it to shut down your Windows 8 computer.

This will work in other versions of Windows as well.

    Pressing Alt+F4 works as well.

Keyboard shortcuts are quicker than finding the mouse, moving and clicking.
