How To Move The Taskbar

Dear Computer Lady,

Quick question.

All my icons on my desktop are at the side.

I want them at the bottom. Help!

Thanks, Penny

Dear Penny,

If the icons you are referring to are your desktop icons, you should be able to drag each one with your mouse and move it wherever you want.

I’m guessing though, you are referring to the icons on your taskbar which can be on placed on either side, the top or bottom of your screen.

You can easily fix that with the following directions:

1. Right-click on a blank spot on your taskbar and click either “Properties” or “Settings” depending on what version of Windows you are using.

2. Find the setting for “Taskbar location on screen” and click the drop-down list to select “Bottom”

3. Click “OK” to save your changes and close the settings window, or in Windows 10, just close the window, your settings are automatically saved.

I am wondering if this person really DID mean her icons on her desktop. I have migrated pretty much to Apple products so I’m not sure Windows still does this- but could her desktop properties be set to auto-arrange, which puts them on the left side of the screen? Turning off auto-arrange allows you to move the icons where you want them…and there used to be a “snap to grid” feature that would keep them lined up nicely but still allow you to have the icons in the area of the screen you wanted.
