[ad]Dear Computer Lady,
I have Win7 on my PC. Is there a way to manually organize files the way I want them instead of alphabetically?
I have several MP3 playlists that I want to organize in the order I want to hear them. I can do that in iTunes but when I copy those lists to my PC in order to download them to something like my GPS on my motorcycle, they are listed alphabetically.
Thank you, Davida
Dear Davida,
The short answer is that there is not a way to manually organize files in windows explorer. Windows gives you several ways to sort your files, alphabetically, by file type, and by file size, but there is no way to drag and drop the files in a certain order.
The work around that I usually use is to rename each file with a number at the beginning of the file name.
For example, if I have three songs that are named:
Voice of Truth, Holy is the Lord, and All My Praise
and I want them to play in the order I have them listed, I would adjust the file names to the following:
01-Voice of Truth, 02-Holy is the Lord, and 03-All My Praise
To rename a file, just right click on the file and select “Rename” from the context menu.
