How To Take A ScreenShot

Dear Computer Lady,

Can you please tell me how to take a screen shot on Face Book?

Thank you so much, Joanne.

Dear Joanne,

I am going to have to make a few guesses here as to what you are actually trying to do.

Guess number 1 is that you are using a Windows computer to view Facebook.

Guess number 2 is that you want to take a screen shot of something on your computer and then upload it to Facebook.

Guess number 3 is that maybe you want to take a screenshot of something on Facebook and save it on your computer.

Lets start with how to take a screenshot on your Windows computer. Simply press the “Print Screen” key on your keyboard. That’s it. The problem is that your screenshot is stored in the Windows Clipboard and you can’t see it. What you need to do, is paste it from the clipboard into a program.

Every Windows computer has an image program called, Paint. It is located in your start menu under the “Accessories” folder. A quick and easy way to open the “Paint” program is to tap the windows logo key on your keyboard and then type the word, “Paint”. Click on the Paint program, and you will be ready for the next step.

Once you have your screenshot on the clipboard, and the Paint program open, all you have to do is click on “Edit” and “Paste” to paste your screenshot into Paint. Now, save your image and you will be able to upload it to facebook just like any other image on your computer.

This will work equally as well if you are trying to take a screenshot of something on Facebook and save it on your computer.

The “best” tool IMHO to capture all, or part of a window is the free Windows Snipping tool. You find this program in the Accessories folder on Windows 7 computers, maybe windows 8 too?

It is very versatile; you may copy any part of the screen to the clipboard and/or or save it directly to a picture file. One of its many uses is to select only part of of picture and save it as a new picture. If you had a picture of three people, you could select two of the people and create a new picture to email or put in a document,

Here is the link to Microsoft’s official guide to the Snipping Tool:
