Vista Power Settings

Dear Computer Lady,

I have a new gateway laptop window vista 64 bit.
My question is how do I keep my computer running until I manually shut it down.

Thank you, Joyce

Dear Joyce,

All you need to do to keep your computer running until you shut it off is adjust the power settings. These directions will work in all versions of Vista:

1. Open the Control Panel by clicking on the “Start Orb”, and then click on “Control Panel”.
2. Click on “Hardware and Sound” in the control panel window.
3. Click on Power Options.

Quick Shortcut: Tap the windows logo key on your keyboard, type “power options” and hit the enter key instead of steps 1-3 above.

4. There will be three power plans listed and the plan you are currently using will be selected. Click “Change plan settings” for your selected power plan.

5. Now you will see two options, “Turn off the display” and “Put the computer to sleep” (If you are using a laptop, there will also be options just for when you are running on the battery) Since you want to keep your laptop running all the time, select “Never” for each of the options, then click the “Save Changes” button .
